2026 Environmental Stewardship Award recipients
Rotary Club of Quinte Sunrise - The Rotary Club of Quinte Sunrise is a small group of dedicated individuals with a focus on stewardship of the Sidney Ward and Bayside area. Their work includes annual watershed cleanup initiatives, scrap metal collection, sponsorship of Quinte Conservation and Lower Trent Conservation Authorities' education programs, and the Rotary Centennial project of the construction of the Outdoor Education Centre at Quinte Conservation.
Buy Nothing Quinte West -Buy Nothing Quinte West is a local, community-based group formed over 10 years ago and inspired by the multinational Buy Nothing movement. Buy Nothing encourages a gift economy to reduce waste and foster community connections. Under the guidance of volunteer administrator Tammy Fisher, Buy Nothing Quinte West encourages the community to give away items they no longer need so others can make use of them, helping conserve natural resources, promote environmental awareness and reduce landfill waste.
Nod Apiary Products Ltd. - NOD Apiary Products, based in Canada and with a location in Quinte West, focuses on developing sustainable, organic and residue-free treatments for honey bee health. Their solutions, based on formic acid, are designed to protect pollinators while minimizing negative impacts on ecosystems and honey production.
Lucie Renaud - Lucie is a Quinte West resident and accomplished marathoner. Combining a love of running with a selfless work ethic, she collects litter from streets, sidewalks, ditches, snowbanks and parks during her training runs to keep Quinte West clean. Lucie regularly adjusts her route to help clean different areas of the city.
The 2026 Environmental Stewardship Award winners were recognized with a small tree-planting ceremony at Buster Alyea Park on World Environment Day (June 5).
The City of Quinte West’s Environmental Stewardship Awards celebrate community members, groups and businesses that are committed to sustainability, conservation and eco-friendly actions and initiatives.
Nomination process
Applications were open from March 2, 2026 until April 24, 2026 for the following three categories:
Individual - celebrating a community member who dedicates their time and efforts to environmental stewardship
Business - recognizing local industry leaders, including small businesses and farms, making a difference through innovative environmental practices
Organization - acknowledging a local non-profit, volunteer or community-led group that has a positive impact on the environment
Three nominees will be selected and awarded for 2026.
Selection process
Quinte West’s Environmental Stewardship Advisory Committee will review the submissions in May. The committee will consider the following when selecting an award recipient for each category:
Environmental impact
Innovation and creativity
Community engagement and education
Long-term sustainability
The three 2026 Environmental Stewardship Award winners will be announced on World Environment Day (June 5, 2026).
