It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Councillor Sally Freeman.

Councillor Freeman's career in public service began in 1995 when she was elected as an alderman to the City of Trenton. Since then, Councillor Freeman has been at the forefront of many significant projects that have made a positive impact on the local community including her involvement on the board that oversaw the amalgamation of Quinte West in 1998, and supporting the construction of the Quinte West Fire/Rescue Headquarters and Station 1 in 2018.

Among her political accomplishments, Councillor Freeman took pride in her contributions to the Quinte Museum of Natural History, her service on the board of directors for Trenval, and her collaboration with the Ontario Health Coalition to address barriers to quality home care for families in Quinte West.

Outside of her duties on Council, Sally appreciated the natural beauty of Quinte West in all seasons, and has logged many miles exploring the city’s abundant trails, parks and waterfront amenities.

“Councillor Freeman was a dedicated advocate for our community, whose kindness and commitment touched the lives of many. She leaves behind a legacy of service and dedication as seen in the many important initiatives and milestones she has contributed to through the years. She will be greatly missed,” said Mayor Jim Harrison.

Sally will be missed by the residents of Quinte West she served so well. She listened to our concerns & looked for solutions. She saw the need for ongoing updating of our emergency services. She spoke when others may not have.

I enjoyed all my interactions with Sally, in particular as OurTMH began it's fight to keep our local hospital open. Sally joined in, proudly wearing the OurTMH button & offering support wherever she could. As well, we both worked on the Accessibility Advisory Committee. Thanks to technology she was able to attend meetings virtually, even as her health changed.

Rest now Sally. You will be missed. Condolences to your family & loved ones.

Sending my deepest condolences to Sally's Quinte West colleagues, family and friends. I was privileged to work in community development in the region and have many fond memories of her commitment and dedication to the community.

Sally was just an all around terrific person. She was always so positive and always interested to find the good in things. She was excited about everything to do with Quinte West and the city's residents and wanted to make things happen for them however she could.

I will never forget how supportive Sally was of the work we've done at the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board. Especially in the early days when things were just starting out, she played a big role as a member of our Board of Directors in terms of helping to drive support within Council and the community.

I'm forever be grateful for everything she did for our organization and I'll miss working with her, seeing her at events around the City and at City Hall.
