The City of Quinte West is seeking the community’s creative name suggestions to name the road leading into Carrying Place Industrial Park.

This road - located off of Carrying Place Road west of Dufferin Avenue - needs a name, and the City invites Quinte West residents to submit their creative ideas for the chance to leave a lasting legacy in the community.

Submit your name ideas below between Nov. 4-24, 2024.


Road naming and name selection process

  1. Think of and submit up to three (3) creative name suggestions for the road leading into Carrying Place Industrial Park by Nov. 22, 2024. Suggestions should follow the asset naming criteria outlined below.

  2. The City's asset naming working group will review all name submissions after the engagement closes. Proposed names will be evaluated based on the criteria below and reviewed to ensure they are appropriate and meet municipal standards.

  3. A shortlist of names will be presented to Council in mid-December for review and final decision-making.

Names that meet the naming criteria but are not selected for this road may be saved and used to name future City assets.

Asset naming criteria

When submitting a name(s), please abide by the following criteria. Names that do not meet these criteria will not be considered.

Names should:

  • Align with one or more of the following themes from the City’s Strategic Plan:

    • Natural Heritage

    • Historical Significance

    • Community Spirit

    • Agricultural Tradition

    • Innovation and Growth

    • Cultural Diversity

    • Recreation and Wellness

    • Environmental Stewardship

  • Be respectful and refrain from using offensive, derogatory or otherwise inappropriate language

Names should not:

  • Start with a silent letter (e.g. Knight Road, Write Avenue)

  • Include symbols such as hyphens or apostrophes (e.g. Castle-Hill Road or O’Connor Street)

  • Be duplicates of, or similar to, existing names (e.g. Princess Street/Princess Drive, Byron Street/Biron Boulevard)

  • Include commercial or trademarked names or words (e.g. Starbucks Street)

  • Include prefixes such as “the” or “a” (e.g. “The Industry Road” would become “Industry Road”)

Names of people will not be accepted.

The City may amend submitted names to meet municipal requirements.

Your name will not be associated or advertised with the road name you suggest.

The City of Quinte West will review its naming policy beginning in 2025. During this process, we will seek input from the community on how the City should name future roads, parks, and other assets.
