Three Quinte West snowplows now have names!
Meet your three newly named Quinte West snowplows:
Scoop Dogg - submitted by Donna Little and the U12AA Quinte West Golden Hawks
Blizzard Wizard - submitted by Amber Darling
Buzz Iceclear - submitted by Karisa Brennen, Meggan Wood and Shannon F Baksh
Teachers, community groups and residents are invited to submit one creative name suggestion for a City plow. The top three names will each be displayed on a City plow. The three winning participants will be invited for lunch, activities and a tour of the Public Works Operations Centre to learn more about the City's winter operations.
How it works:
As an individual, group or school class, submit your creative name suggestion between Nov. 22 and Dec. 10, 2023.
Our Winter Operations staff - the hardworking team behind the City's snow clearing operations - will select their favourite three names from Dec. 11 to Dec. 15, 2023.
The three winning names will be announced the week of Dec. 18-22, 2023. The winning participants/groups will be contacted to coordinate their tour of the Public Works Operations Centre, including lunch and activities, in early 2024.
Contest rules and guidelines:
The Name a Plow contest is open to all City of Quinte West residents.
Participants must register on the City's Get Involved Quinte West online engagement page to submit a name.
All name submissions must be received no later than 11:59 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10, 2023.

Please be mindful when making your name submission - it must be respectful and appropriate. Any names deemed disrespectful or inappropriate will be removed. The City team can review and restore them if appropriate.
No purchase is necessary to enter the contest.
If under 18 years of age, submissions must be made by the parent or legal guardian.

Snow Plow Safety
Winter operations at a glance
Quinte West winter operations at a glance
During the colder months, staff monitor weather conditions and patrol roads 7 days a week, day and night, to ensure they’re ready to take action when a snow or ice event occurs. Road plowing is based on a priority system, with main arterial roads cleared first.
Our Public Works and Environmental Services staff maintain and clear snow and ice from:
- 1,490 lane kilometres of roads - 90 kilometres of sidewalks - 49 locations throughout the city, such as trails and City parking lots
To support our winter operations, during a weather event the City deploys:
- 32 snowplows - 12 truck plows - 8 sidewalk plows - 4 sanding units - 2 tractors with plows - 1 wheel loader with a plow
